Sneijder dismisses Manchester United rumours

Real Madrid midfielder Wesley Sneijder commented on recent rumours about a move to Manchester United, and completely dismissed that option.

In recent media reports, it was said that the Dutchman formed part of a possible exchange allowing Cristiano Ronaldo to move to Real Madrid.

But Sneijder was clear in a statement issued on his website: When I left Ajax, all I wanted was to go to Real Madrid. They are the best club in the world. And now that I m here, all I want is to win as many trophies as I can with them and wear the white shirt for as long as possible.

The same rumours have been doing the rounds about Robinho. Well, I hope he stays too, and I hope that Cristiano Ronaldo joins us at the Bernabeu.

In short, IÂ’m flattered to be linked t…

Merkel was in Basel on Wednesday to witness Germany s narrow victory over Turkey in their nail-biting semi-final and Steg said she is crossing her fingers for Sunday.

The chancellor is convinced that our side has the power and the will to prevail, he said but added: After Spain s strong performance, one cannot necessarily say Germany is in the role of favourite.

Spain has confirmed that King Juan Carlos a…

Weghorst grateful for Ten Hag support: ´It shows I am doing a good job´

Wout Weghorst feels he is doing a good job for Manchester United after becoming a regular under Erik ten Hag.

The Netherlands international has started all 18 of United s games since joining on loan from Burnley in January – only Bruno Fernandes has been selected as many times.

He has scored just two goals so far, while assisting three more, leading to questions being asked whether the 30-year-old is the best option up top for United.

However, having played his part in United s EFL Cup triumph and helped them advance in the FA Cup and Europa League, Weghorst is pleased with what he has achieved so far.

That s a lot of matches and it shows the trust in me, Weghorst said when asked about the number of games he has started. It also shows I am doing a good…

Ozil wants Arsenal stay

Mesut Ozil wants to stay at Arsenal past this summer, according to .

The attacking midfielder signed a new contract with the Gunners last year, one that has made him by far the best paid player in the squad, but his performances have since then been somewhat short of the mark when it comes to the level that is usually expected of a player of such skill.

He had a very turbulent summer of 2018, when he unexpectedly got knocked out of the World Cup with Germany, the title defenders, after the group stage. His performances were sharply criticized in his homeland, and sharpened further by a photo he had ill-advisedly taken with Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan before the tournament. He retired from the national team, feeling that he was abused for his Turkish origins.<…

Napoli table bid for Gerard Deulofeu

Gerard Deulofeu is set to leave Barcelona yet again with return to Italy on the cards for former Everton wide man.

The 23-year-old Spanish international struggled to break into the Barcelona first team this season and is likely to see his chances even more limited with the return of Ousmane Dembele and the arrival of Philippe Coutinho.

The flamboyant winger is no stranger to life in Italy having played for AC Milan back in 2017 and reports from Rai Sport are suggesting that Deulofeo could be set for a move to Napoli.

The Partenopei have presented Deulofeu with a five-year deal worth €2 million a year plus €500,000 in bonuses.

Barcelona will not stand in his way and are ready to sanction the move which still depends on Simone Verdi’s potential arriv…

Granada capture Diego Buonanotte

Granada have completed the signing of Malaga winger Diego Buonanotte, los Boquerones have announced on their official website.

The Argentine hotshot has put pen to paper to a four-and-a-half-year deal at Estadio Nuevo Los Carmenes.

Buonanotte, 24, is club’s fourth signing of the transfer window, following Recio, Aranda and Nolito.

The arrival of the talented forward is likely to be a huge boost for the club in their attempt to escape relegation to Segunda, with the Argentine likely to slot straight into the starting line-up.

Diego Buonanotte joined Malaga in a €4.5 million deal from River Plate in January 2011, but has failed to prove his worth at La Rosaleda.

After starting the season as a fringe player, the winger has slowly started to work…

Suarez needs to do more – Benzema

Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema thinks Liverpool s Luis Suarez needs more than one good season before the Spanish giants move for him.

Benzema netted 24 goals in all competitions last term as Real won the UEFA Champions League and Copa del Rey.

La Liga glory frustratingly eluded them, though, as city rivals Atletico Madrid who they beat in the final of Europe s premier club competition triumphed.

Real are expected to bolster their squad in the close-season as they look for their first league title since 2012.

And Liverpool star Suarez who scored 31 goals in 33 Premier League appearances as his team finished second last season is reportedly on their hit-list.

However, Benzema, who said he was unconcerned at reports of the club s interest in the Uruguayan, …

Lille 23/20 to beat Celtic in Thursday’s Europa League showdown

Market: Lille win

Odds: 23/20 @

Looking to pile even more pressure onto Celtic in midweek, Lille will make the trip to a downbeat Glasgow on Thursday night as they sign off their Group H campaign on Thursday night.

Starting with the hosts, coming under even more scrutiny over the weekend, Celtic had to settle for what was a hugely disappointing 1-1 draw at home against St. Johnstone. With many around Glasgow calling for Neil Lennon to step down from his role in the dugout, the defending Scottish champions find themselves in the midst of their most testing spell in recent memory. Appearing someway off bitter rivals Rangers, Celtic have remarkably managed to win just a pair of their last 11 matchups across all formats, a run that stems all the way back to October…

Arteta holds no doubts over Arsenal´s ability to respond to north London derby defeat

Mikel Arteta is in no doubt over Arsenal s ability to bounce back from a dreadful run in the Premier League, starting off against Burnley on Sunday.

Arsenal have won just two of their past seven Premier League matches, losing three of the previous four.

Their most recent defeat came against north London rivals Tottenham, with Son Heung-min and Harry Kane sending Jose Mourinho s side back to the top of the table and condemning Arteta to his second derby loss as Arsenal boss.

The Gunners now start a run of six games in the space of 17 days across all competitions, including an EFL Cup quarter-final against Arteta s former club Manchester City just before Christmas.

Burnley visit Emirates Stadium on Sunday, but Arsenal at least head into that clash on the ba…
