Race hots up for ‘next Donnarumma’

Udinese goalkeeper Alex Meret is slowly becoming one of the hottest commodities in Italian football, .

Even though he has yet to feature in Serie A, the 20-year-old has caught the eye of top European clubs and even received his first Italy call-up recently.

With their primary target Gianluigi Donnarumma clearly not too keen on moving to Turin, Juventus have now turned their attention towards Meret.

The Bianconeri have done plenty of business with Udinese over the years and they hope to agree a deal for the talented shot-stopper soon.

However, the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea, Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig are keen as well, with the Zebrette looking to sell to the highest bidder.

After warming the bench at Udinese during the 2014/15 and 2015…

Chelsea to enter De Zerbi race?

According to , Chelsea have put two names down as potential candidates to replace Mauricio Pochettino, should they decide to part ways with the Argentinian at the end of the season. Those names are Sporting Lisbon head coach Ruben Amorim, and Brighton and Hove Albion manager Roberto De Zerbi.

The Chelsea hierarchy haven t yet made their minds up about Pochettino. Despite his team currently sitting 11th in the Premier League table clearly an unacceptable position given the amount of money spent on reinforcements over the last couple of transfer windows, they are willing, for the time being, to give the 52-year-old a chance to turn the team s fortunes around.

De Zerbi has been linked with the likes of Liverpool and Barcelona, and having seen his predecessor at Brighton Gr…

Belgian First Division: Advantage still with Anderlecht

Anderlecht maintained a one-point buffer atop the Belgian First Division league standings with a 2-1 win over Zulte-Waregem on Sunday.

Marcin Wasilewski returning to form after the horrific leg break he suffered in August 2009 gave the reigning champions the lead three minutes before half-time, only for Zulte to hit back through Remi Mareval on the hour mark.

Zulte striker Ernest Webnje was sent off with 10 minutes remaining and Anderlecht frontman Romelu Lukaku scored the winner two minutes from the final whistle to keep his side s one-point advantage over Racing Genk, who scored a 1-0 win over Germinal Beerschot.

Genk midfielder Marwin Ogunjimi scored the only goal of the game after 68 minutes to ensure his side kept up the pressure on the league leaders.

Mario Balotelli the second best player in the world, don’t make me laugh!

Manchester City striker Mario Balotelli believes that only Lionel Messi is currently a better player than him in the world.

That’s a big claim considering he hasn’t even proven he’s the best player at Manchester City.

Golden Boy

Balotelli has just claimed the ‘Golden Boy’ award for being the best under-21 player in Europe.

He won it ahead of Arsenal youngster Jack Wilshere. Does that make Wilshere the third best player in the world? Balotelli now wants to win the Ballon d’Or.

Confident

The Italian told Tuttosport: I want to be the best player in the world, It is good to have ambition. I ve said in the past that I don t care what other people want or expect of me because I know what I want.

I will always give everythin…

Danilo: Every mistake at Real Madrid goes viral

Real Madrid defender Danilo has acknowledged life at the Santiago Bernabeu is not easy due to the intense pressure from the media.

The former Porto man has struggled to live up to the high expectations at Madrid since joining the club in 2015 and has been ridiculed on more than occasion after making a mistake.

The media pressure is the largest in the world, without doubt, Danilo told SporTV.

An error, no matter how small, goes viral. A mistake becomes very great even if it is small.

And, of course, when you do something good, it is also very great.

The 25-year-old made just 17 LaLiga appearances in 2016-17 and he is determined to do better next term as he looks to win over Zinedine Zidane.

I cannot wait to start the new season becaus…

Tuchel: Race is on to replace injured Chelsea duo Lukaku and Werner

Thomas Tuchel rallied Chelsea s bit-part players by telling them the race is on to prove themselves after Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner were injured.

Lukaku sustained an ankle injury and Werner hurt his hamstring during the first half of the 4-0 home victory over Malmo in Champions League Group H on Wednesday.

Belgium striker Lukaku was injured by a tackle from Lasse Nielsen that resulted in a penalty Jorginho confidently dispatched to add to Andreas Christensen s opener.

Kai Havertz replaced Lukaku and scored Chelsea s third before playing a role in another spot-kick for the Blues that was converted by Jorginho.

Chelsea have five games to come over the next 17 days and Tuchel said there can be no excuses for a decline in results if Lukaku and Werner …

Miranchuk unconcerned by missed chances after leading Russia to crucial win

Russia matchwinner Aleksey Miranchuk played down concerns over missed chances after leading his country to a crucial 1-0 win over Finland.

The 25-year-old netted the only goal of the game as Stanislav Cherchesov s side grabbed their first win of Euro 2020 to keep their hopes of reaching the knockout stages alive.

However, the Russians would have been avoided a nervous finish to the game had they done better with the 14 shots they racked up to their opponents 11.

Not that Miranchuk was concerned, though, the forward insisting that getting three points on the board was all that mattered after defeat to Belgium in the opening group game.

He told Match TV: At this stage, the victory was most important. We have completed the task and are moving on.

FA Cup semi-final madness

Do the semi-finals really have to be played here?

The English FA are not renowned for making spectacularly good decisions that show a great deal of commonsense, so I suppose we shouldn’t be too surprised by the ‘chaos’ they are creating on the weekend of 16th and 17th April.

Decisions

If any other body had made the decisions they have made about that weekend I would say it beggars belief. For the English FA it is par for the course.

Since 2008 the FA Cup semi-finals have been played at Wembley. I don’t think I know anyone who outside the FA who thinks that is a good idea. Not only do fans from all over the country have to travel to London, the chance for people in Liverpool, Manchester, Birmingham, etc, to see such a big game is taken away, and the…
